The Science of Measurement and Future Changes to the International System of Units (SI)
In 2018, the kilogram, the last of the seven base SI units that is still defined in terms of a material artifact, will be changed from its original definition in 1889 to one based on a constant of nature. At the same time, the kelvin will be redefined based on a better fundamental constant. Attend this on-demand web seminar to learn more about the science used to set the world standard for measurements and how future SI redefinitions may affect you. We’ll also briefly review the history of SI units, experiments being performed to make redefinitions possible, how these definitions get disseminated to National Measurement Institutes and everyday measuring devices, and how Fluke Calibration is involved in this initiative.
